PAST THE SHATTERED DOOR (feature documentary)

logline: How artists absorb and respond to serious illness and trauma, and how it impacts their artmaking.

status: in development, currently seeking investors and funds, and determining the best path forward to make this.

thoughts: It’s been nearly 20 years since my diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of a rare brain tumor but it still lives alongside me, like it just happened. The experience profoundly fucked me up and I am one of the lucky ones. I am interested in how artists from all disciplines and backgrounds have responded to similar circumstances. How has their work changed? Have they absorbed the experience and moved on? Are they still in throes of the reckoning? Have they conquered their fear of oblivion or has it intensified? Has survivorship been burdensome to any degree? This film will be feature-length, shot on super 8 and 16 mm film and more cinematic tone poem than talking heads. No narration. I intend to show multiple artists at work, in process, rather than have them deliver profound bits of verbiage. The path is the point, the process is the point, the intersections are the point.
