Inventory Report | starring Joe Haege + Todd Tschida, shot by Adam Tischler, written + directed by Brian Padian | This is an excerpted scene from my screenplay for The Black Sea. I made this to apply for a grant to help make The Black Sea, thinking that this effort would make my application more attractive. did not receive the grant but this really was useful to see how out of my depth I was directing anything. storyboards here
the omega man | shot on 16 mm 1996 arcata ca | featuring: George Haroutunian and others | written/directed by Brian Padian. A man runs in the woods and remembers humiliations from his friends. I guess this is a real window into where I was at emotionally in college. Also a window into how someone better at focus and camera ops than me should be in charge of the look. See the 2022 video for Bob by Tod Lippy that repurposes this footage here
one wacky mornin’ | shot on super 8 circa 1995 | featuring: George Haroutunian, Matt Sipes, Margaret Malone, Red Ferrington | written/directed by Brian Padian | shot in and around the Beverly House, Arcata CA. The scene of George pulling up in his truck and saying fuck you into Matt’s phone was originally a 60 second film assignment for Cinematography I with John Heckel. I built the rest of the film around it and popped it in after. All shot on reversal film and edited with old school splicer and tape.
(R)evolutionaries | starring Joe Smith, Margaret Malone, Jason Esquerra, Nick Dedina | Written by Brian Padian, directed by Chris Papike, shot by Douglas Martin. This project was part of our Cinematography III class at Humboldt State way back, where everyone in the class helped in some regard crew-wise (i also held the boom pole). I worked with Jason again approximately 30 years later on Microaggressions Season 2. Margaret filled in for the original cast member who called out sick. This was my first produced script and so I got introduced to how quickly something you’ve spent a long time writing can change on set for any number of reasons. Michael Pendowski and I edited this on reel-to-reel machine at college. We applied for conforming grant but did not get. The mag track and film sat in a toolbox in my office for many years and during Covid I had it transferred to digital.
A Day in the Life of Jon S | starring Jon Sciarrone. This is all footage that was shot in 1991 for the video production class Jon and I took at UGA. I discovered the raw material on a VHS tape in 2021 and cut it together and added sound effects. This was shot at the condo called Eaglewood we rented way back when with Chris E and Jason L.
